We are able to provide a beautiful, private setting for all of our brides and their bridal parties. With our incredible studio lighting, we will airbrush your makeup and apply natural individual lashes that will look amazing in photographs!

All of our brides go through a three appointment process – a bridal consult, bridal preview and wedding application:

Bridal Consult

During this 20 minute appointment, we discuss the details that determine your look on your wedding day. We note the colors, style of wedding gown, hair style, jewelry, your personal makeup routine and your skin type. At this appointment we can make suggestions for you on your skin care, brow shaping and all the other scheduling details such as hair appointments, etc.

Bridal Preview

We apply your makeup exactly how it will look on your wedding day in this 2 hour appointment. We will go step by step and document your personal makeup design on a face sheet followed by a photograph for our records. At this appointment you will have your foundation airbrushed and have the individual eyelash or strip application applied. Many brides like to use this appointment to look fabulous for a bridal shower or bachelorette party. Brides can bring examples of their favorite makeup styles from magazines which can help us in designing your bridal day makeup.

Wedding Day Application

For your wedding day application we allow up to 1 hour and fifteen minutes. Once again you will experience the flawless airbrush makeup application along with those fabulous natural looking lashes we apply. You will leave with a touch up bag that includes translucent powder, sponges, and Q-tips.

We also have other artists available for your bridal party if they would like to have their makeup done as well. It makes for a fabulous, fun morning if all of the bridesmaids and mothers are together at our studio having their makeup done.

Take a look at what Carolyn had to say about her experience at The Make-up Studio:

“Julie and her staff are truly top-notch! They did my makeup for my engagement pictures and my wedding, in addition to the makeup for my mom, my mother-in-law, and my five bridesmaids on my wedding day. I could easily get ahold of The Make-Up Studio whenever I had a question or concern throughout the planning process because the studio holds regular business hours, which was such a huge relief. They were also wonderful about accommodating our schedule; all eight appointments were done within a two hour time frame, and they even set up a table for us to eat breakfast and drink the mimosas we brought along! Most importantly, my airbrush make-up held up flawlessly with no touch-ups on a 97 degree day — truly a miracle! The price was a bit higher than some of the other places I looked, but I got so much more for the money here: a consultation, full (very thorough) preview, day-of makeup, and a makeup lesson. It’s absolutely worth the money!”

Do It Yourself (DIY) Bridal Makeup

Classic Bridal Makeup Tutorial

Imagine having Martha Stewart plan your dinner party or Vera Wang help you shop for your wedding dress…well that’s the level of treat we are in for today! Julie Farley, owner and make-up artist extraordinaire of The Make-Up Studio in downtown Spokane, has written a whole post for us about how to do DIY bridal make-up! And while we here at Apple Brides strongly advise you to book a professional make-up artist, we also know that sometimes it’s just not in the cards.

It is truly an honor for all of us to get some DIY tips from her! Take it away Julie…

Step 1- Prep Skin

prep-face-collage

Prep skin with eye cream  and face primer. Using an eye cream will help application of under eye concealer and the face primer improves the texture of your skin for foundation application. The one we used is our favorite because it keeps the face more matte throughout the day. Great for bridal makeup that needs to last 12+ hours!

Product Recommendations:

Step 2 – Foundation, Concealer & Powder

foundation-concealer-powder-collage

Use a tinted moisturizer for a natural look, followed by face and under eye concealer. Finish with colorless setting powder.

Step 3 – Eyes

tight-lining-lid-primer-collage

Prep lids with lid primer using brush and blend out with fingers. Then apply tight line color to root of lashes using flat stiff brush and eyeliner sealer. The eyeshadow needs to be pigment rich and can be other than black such as deep purple or navy blue.

To create this look on the eyes apply darker bronze shadow on outside corner of eye, then a light gold shimmer on the inside half of eye. Next, apply a matte shade of light brown into crease to contour. Notice the powder we have used under the eyes to catch any fallen eyeshadow. Just brush away when done with eyeshadow application.

Eye-lash-curling-collageCurl lashes with a rounded pad eyelash curler and apply waterproof mascara or the tube type such as Blinc. Separate lashes with a lash comb and finish with a heated lash curler to lift outside lashes.

Step 4 – Blush, Bronzer & Contour

Apply Blush to the apples of your cheeks and blend upward along cheekbones. Bronzer should be applied to the high plains of the face, such as forehead, jawline and under cheekbone as a contour. To chisel cheekbones further, apply light colored powder just under bronzer and blend. This is a great visual effect.

Step 5 – Lips

lip-stain-and-gloss-collage

Apply lip stain for a natural smudge proof color and finish with gloss.  You can add a light color gloss to mute the color of the stain if desired. Remember, your lips need to have a little more color to show up in photos.

Step 6 – Lashes

Applying-lashes-eyeliner-collage

Applying false lashes will pop your eyes about 40% which is great for pictures. We prefer individual lashes to strips because they look more natural and don’t lift on the edges. Apply individual lashes to the lash line alternating sizes. Finish with a thin black liner on top to hide roots of lashes.

All of these steps can all be achieved with the proper makeup and tools. Look for a high quality, oil free foundation and pigment rich shadows and blush. Most importantly, prep your skin. Your makeup will only look as good as the texture of your skin allows. We recommend getting started several weeks early using an eye cream and moisturizer to really get your skin hydrated. For a quick and easy facial alternative we recommend using the GLAMGLOW Mud Mask a couple times a week prior to your wedding. This will help get your face in tip top shape for your special day.
